1000 Museum amenities floor

Project

The amenities floor of One Thousand Museum in Miami features sweeping 360° views framed by curved FRP petal panels surrounding the structural core of the tower. Developed in collaboration with the project team, the panels were engineered to achieve the required geometry, performance, durability, and installation requirements while faithfully rendering the unique geometry designed by Zaha Hadid’s office.

The largest of the curved panels is 18’ x 12’. Due to their scale, several bays of windows were left open during construction to allow the panels to be craned into the tower and positioned around the structural core.

FRP is the optimal material for for this application because of its durability and resistance to moisture. The presence of a pool within the space required a material capable of withstanding prolonged exposure to a wet and humid environment. The finished panels were tested in accordance with the NFPA 268 standard and received a metallic silver paint finish applied after installation, creating a seamless, sculptural appearance throughout the space.
