K&A Scope of Work: Design, engineering, and fabrication of support molds. Engineering and fabrication of composite laminate replacement for original mortar behind mosaic.
Project Description: Epoxy resin and glass fiber support these historic mosaics at Stanford University. After the original mortar was severely damaged during an earthquake, the mosaics were in danger of collapsing. K&A developed, engineered, and fabricated a new structure by temporarily supporting the mosaics with exterior molds. We than removed the original mortar and steel support from behind the mosaics and replaced it with an engineered composite laminate.
