K & A Hills Brothers Building

Hills Brothers Building Client: Koll Construction
Contractor: Plant Construction
Architect: Whistler-Patri Architects
Designer: Whistler-Patri Architects
Location: Hills Plaza, San Francisco

K&A Scope of Work: Design, engineering, and fabrication of synthetic stone arches, door jambs, lintels, and watertable.

Project Description: These intricately detailed architectural ornaments make up the courtyard entries at the Hills Plaza in San Francisco. The surface is lightly sandblasted polymer concrete (synthetic stone) with FRP structure and steel mounting frames. Similar to precast concrete or GFRC, this material is lighter, stronger, and impervious to moisture and therefore more durable. Since no larger aggregate is required, the surface appearance is more like sandstone than Portland cement concrete finishes. Color is integral to the polymer concrete.
