Project Description:
K&A goes to the Olympics! The General Motors Pavilion at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, GA featured this "concept car" of the future. The designers wanted it to emerge from a pool of mist and light, appearing to be translucent silver. Starting with a half scale model in clay, K&A did a 3-D surface scan of the model, enlarged it in foam, and produced the translucent car with structural anchors to attach it to the frame. Also made were a Corvette and a GMC truck. The three cars were part of a music and light show in which they were illuminated by strobe lights and were swung above the crowd by lifts. The GM pavilion was featured in an article in the November 1996 issue of TCI.
