K&A Scope of Work: Design and fabrication of FRP panels
Project Description: These 40 lb/ft2 wall panels are the key elements in a major acoustic renovation of Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. Mounted onto massive steel trusses, these new walls are intended to "close in" the space around the orchestra and direct the sound to the audience and musicians. No two of the 88 panels are the same shape and some weigh as much as 8500 lbs. K&A solved a significant installation problem by making the panels hollow and filling them with sand after installation to meet the 40 lb/ft2 acoustical specifications. This allowed lighter equipment to do the lifting, eliminating the need for a larger crane erected inside the hall.
