K & A Jenokowski Bench

Architects Holt Hinshaw wanted a modular, portable conference table for their clients new offices in Tiburon, CA.  The design criterion included near zero maintenance, high impact resistance, light weight enough to be easily moved around the office by staff, and, if possible, translucent.

Bench

SOLUTION:  K&A proposed an all FRP one-piece seat and seat back based on CAD data from the architect.  The cross section was "extruded" into a 3/4 circle and the CNC milling machine created a foam mold.  Translucent dye formulas were developed by the architect in our lab, and used to tint the resin.  An all FRP part was molded and mounted onto a steel frame.  Two identical benches were made to allow conference arrangements from 2 to 8 people throughout the open workspace overlooking San Francisco Bay.
